IF this particular “Bible verse” is “true”, then that fact raises some serious – insurmountable? – difficulties for “Christians”:

Proverbs 22:6:

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Now, here’s the problem with the above:

  1. IF it is true, then what does that necessarily  say about “Christian” parents whose (adult) offspring subsequently engage in antics which happen to be classified as “Sin” by their specific blinkered little variant of “Christianity?”

They can’t simply lie to themselves by classifying it as “backsliding”, because there’s nothing for their offspring to have “slid” into.

This is where “Christianity” (in all variants) excels at the “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” gimmick:

Every piddling little sub-sub-sub-sub-denomination of “Christianity” implicitly – or explicitly – regards EVERY OTHER sub-sub-sub-sub-denominational variant as a mere “Satanic Counterfeit”.  You will NEVER encounter ANYONE who is even willing to entertain the theoretical possibility that THEIR OWN shitty little “clique” are the ones having their “ears tickled” by “unsound doctrine”.

It is therefore a mere triviality to characterize something — hell, ANYTHING  – as a “sin” for which your victim needs to “repent”.  The fact that you/your particular “Denomination” just *happen to be* in a position to interpret the “One True Faith” for the poor schmuck is nothing but a MERE COINCIDENCE.

(/sarcasm)

Quite frankly, “Christians” want it both ways:

They desperately want to “believe” that if they victimize/brainwash their offspring enough, they won’t “stray” from whatever their shitty little sub-sub-sub-variant designates as the “Straight and narrow way”.

However, they ALSO need to at least PRETEND TO BELIEVE that their “God” is “in control” — omnipotence and suchlike.  The necessary implications of such “omnipotence”  WOULD end up biting them in the ass, however, because it ALSO begs the question: is their “God” omnipotent enough to COMPEL them to “believe” in him, or not?

If “yes” (“I harden whom I harden”, etc.) – then the whole shtick about “belief” being the means to “salvation” collapses, because both “believers” and “unbelievers” become mere sock-puppets acting out a puppet-show orchestrated by Yahweh.

If the answer is “no”, then there is something that Yahweh cannot do – in which case He is NOT “Omni”-potent.

That’s the problem:  either you end up with Calvinism (including “Predestination”) – or you end up with only a “semi”-potent Deity.

Well, unless you hand-wave all of the above away with the assertion that such objections are merely a “snare for the proud”. 🙂

Anyway: just some thoughts which should probably throw sand in the open wounds of all self-designated “Christian” parents whose offspring (of any age) are “straying” from the shitty little CULT where they were “raised”.

They wouldn’t be “departing”, if you would “trained them up”, correctly.
